Picture books,
made slowly.

These stories began on Ponui Island, passed from one Chamberlin bedside to the next, and lived for generations before they found a home on the page.

A young watercolour Tyrannosaurus rex sits beside an open book.

How we make books

A real island. One clear problem. Watercolour with room to breathe. Type made for new readers.

  1. First, the island

Ponui is real. Its bays, birds, tides and Southern-Hemisphere seasons come first. The story has to belong there before the mice set foot outside their log.

  2. Then, one problem

Every book gives the family one clear challenge to solve together. Kindness, resourcefulness and small acts of bravery matter more than size or strength.

  3. Watercolour with room to breathe

Each spread is composed as one finished watercolour on warm ivory cotton paper. Pigment, paper and quiet space are part of the story, not decoration around it.

  4. Letters for new readers

Baloo 2 brings the round warmth to the display type. Andika keeps the read-aloud text open and distinct for children learning the shapes of letters.
